Silence from Mayor Gatsas as rezoning for Lucas Road development moves forward

Tuesday, October 2nd at Manchester City Hall, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the rezoning on Lucas Road in Ward 8 for a 160-unit high density apartment project.

Manchester mayoral candidate Joyce Craig issued the following statement:

“Mayor Gatsas could have stopped this rezoning with a veto. Instead, he chose to remain silent, ignoring the concerns of Manchester residents who voiced serious opposition. It is disturbing that Gatsas allowed this unpopular development plan to move forward just weeks after accepting a $10,000 donation from its developer, William Socha. The new zoning rules will hurt the community by lowering their property values, increasing traffic in their neighborhood, and further straining their schools.”

“The Lucas Road community made their opposition to this development very clear. Unfortunately, their interests were ignored by Mayor Gatsas. The mayor should be listening to the concerns of Manchester residents, not wealthy developers. As mayor, I’ll speak up to make sure the voices of our community come first and put an end to pay-to-play politics in City Hall.”
